How Twitter Mangled Marvel Studios & DC Beyond Recognition (Blog)
Warning: Filthy and foul language ahead. Enter at your own peril as we talk about DC's future; as well as blast Marvel Studios regarding how they did Thor dirty.
DC Titans Season Three came out this last weekend.
I bet it made the same size splash as some teenage mean girl at a pool party. Meaning: Not even one drop. Which left only hardcore DC Fans watching it along with a few casual people just scrolling HBO Max.
Look: Season One wasn’t very good with the exception of one episode. Season Two was head and shoulders better.
And what I saw this last weekend has left a seed which has already sprouted roots in my frontal lobe. That seed being disdain. Also, just for the sake of transparency: DC Titans S3 isn’t a big deal in the grand scheme of Entertainment.
But Spider-Man: No Way Home, The Batman, Thor 4, Doctor Strange 2, Aquaman 2, etc will shape the Entertainment Industry for years to come.
For they could be the canary in the coal mine.
If these movies do not create a big enough splash to carry Hollywood—then, what will? Indie Horror Films that are brimming with pretentiousness? I mean, at this point, Manga, couldn’t even save Tinsel Town.
Who would trust them to do it again? Only this time they’re going to make sure to stay true to the source material and do it right.
This has the same validity as me not sleeping with a beautiful, naked woman sitting on my bed invitingly. Softly moaning my name over and over.
Yeah, right.
Anyways, at this point, Movie Studios have three major battles ahead: 1) Winning back half of America due to politcs and China; and 2) Accepting Netflix’s business-model isn’t sustainable. 3) Trying to heed off the death of the Blockbuster.
So, let’s talk about all the mentally delayed mistakes which happened for us to get here.
A once booming superhero market producing billion-dollar franchises where even Phoenix’ Fleck got in on the action. Well, at the last minute.
Now, they find themselves in the same place as all those DC and Marvel Comics employees who are scrambling to find any kind of money, whatsoever.
Like I said before: It’s a great time to be an Indie Creator.
THE PROBLEM WITH DC & TITANS S3
DC Titans S3 treated the source material for one of the most beloved animated movies in history like dog shit. As well as one of DC Comics’ favorite fan moment.
And I’m not even being hyperbolic.
You can say whatever you want about the few shocks in Episode One; but, Bruce Wayne, was disrespected.
From Dick and Barbra constantly yelling at him “You fucking killed, Jason. And you better not get another, Robin.”—to him being so incompetent he didn’t know his ward was a drug-dealer.
The Sherlock Holmes of comics couldn’t deduce his partner in crime was up to some bad stuff. And I’m supposed to believe he’s Batman?
Anyways, DC, has Shazam 2, Black Adam, Aquaman 2, Flashpoint and The Batman etc coming to theaters. And don’t get it twisted; including Hawkman with the Rock indicates they’re doing Black Reign from JSA (1999).
If so, the movie has the potential to be huge. Well, if they can finagle it into China.
Also, most of these movies sound great.
Yet, after the Snyderverse atrocity—plus, his fans have launched 24-hour marathons of Cyberstalking numerous times against me. They are probably the most despised group in all of the interwebs.
They treat Zack Snyder like he’s their religion. Their identity.
It’s sad and crazy.
Either way, WB gambled on Zack Snyder and it failed. He did a great job picking actors; but not understanding why Batman and Superman have resonated with people for eighty years.
He had one of the easiest slamdunks in Hollywood’s History; and he didn’t just miss the rim.
No.
He missed the entire thing with the characters he had at his disposal. Remember, this is missing the backboard while trying to dunk.
I mean, he had the Dark Knight and the Man of Steel during peak Superhero Boom. And he couldn’t even make a billion-dollars. Which looking back at it—well, it still feels unreal.
Like, really?
Besides, Pattinson’s—every movie DC has in production is going to be a gamble.
I would include Momoa and The Rock in there, but with the uncertainty of China’s Box Office; which accounted for almost a third of Aquaman’s worldwide gross, and also, made the Fast and Furious franchise an international powerhouse.
And let’s be honest: China doesn’t need American Movies. They can pick and choose with impunity.
DC now must ask: Will the movie, the star, the score, the marketing connect with audiences? Because if they’re not going to lean on a Shared Universe for promotion; then it all comes down the Superstars and Directors.
Basically, how Hollywood used to be pre-2006.
AVENGERS: ENDGAME TELLS US A LOT ABOUT MARVEL STUDIOS
What absolutely drives my anger towards my Marvel Studios is their sheer hubris.
They had all the data possible from the disastrous “All-New All-Different” 2015 Marvel Comics campaign to know the bulk of those heroes didn’t work. Plus, one could argue it’s the main cause of American Comics collapsing.
Also, during the peak of Marvel’s reign; almost every major character in the movies were replaced in the comics post-2015 for a time. I will go into this at a later day because of all the different failures.
Miles Morales and Lady Jane proved to be the exceptions. Also, to be fair: Miles Morales came out long before 2016’s Civil War II. He also has the best modern origin of any character; which is just Peter’s remix. And it still packs a huge emotional punch.
It’s why Sony’s Into The Spider-Verse did so well. Plus, great marketing—and Miles is a solid character unlike so many nowadays.
But since “We’re Marvel-Fucking-Studios—people will buy whatever we’re selling.” Which was the mantra going through all of the Disney Execs’ heads before the release of Black Widow.
When all of their minds should’ve been screaming “How do we replace Iron Man, Captain America and Thor? Tom Holland is owned by Sony! We have no one. Are we messing up big time with any contracts, too?”
And I know the mantra’s true because of how poorly planned Avengers: Endgame is regarding Captain America and Thor’s futures. By the way; there are a ton more problems created solely from that movie.
IT’S NOT LIKE THE HEART MATTERS
Cap, Thor and Iron Man were the heart of the MCU for over a decade. And props for giving Tony a worthy death; but why did you throw Thor’s entire arc in the the garbage? You know—him BECOMING A WORTHY KING!? You’ve only spent several films building up to it.
And the one where he becomes King; not only the highest-grossing, but one of Marvel’s most beloved films of normies.
Which would’ve meant Marvel Studios had another trilogy of films with mostly classic source material to back them up. Just like from the first decade of films.
Those comics being Thor: God of Thunder (Gorr’s debut), Mighty Thor #705 (Lady Jane fights Mangog to save Asgard. Thor would’ve been King and she could’ve done all the work he couldn’t.) and War of the Realms. Which would’ve been amazing to see translated to film since the comic didn’t hit like it should’ve.
Then, Captain America, could’ve fought Zemo, the Serpent Society, etc. Or just show up in movies that needed a boost.
Once again: Why exactly did Valkyrie have to be Queen of Asgard; essentially making a decade worth of films moot?
I could go into more details; but my point will still remain the same: Avengers: Endgame is proof that Kevin Feige didn’t plan out Phase Four or hubris is to blame.
Maybe a combination of both?
IT’S UP TO THE GODS
Lately, I’ve been seeing quite a bit of Disney and DC/HBO Max filling up my Trending List on Twitter. Which tells me they’re desperate for analytics and other information because the trends are way too elaborate compared to the average one.
But here’s the thing: Twitter is most likely the reason they made all these horrible choices with the exception of Titans.
Disney’s Twitter data told them they didn’t need Luke Skywalker for the last installment of the Skywalker Saga. Or that it was okay to turn Thor into nothing more than a joke. For Twitter now has, Queen Valkyrie. And all is right in the Realms.
Then, there’s DC.
Honestly, it just gives me a headache thinking about the Snyder Cult, the Snyder movies bombing, the AT&T deal, the Discovery deal, etc all scream of things going poorly for awhile.
Lastly, understand that information is always valuable.
But like with life; not everything is created equally. DC and Marvel Studios decided to go with Twitter Analytics instead of listening to long-term fans.
Which was the main ingredient that made the MCU thee biggest franchise ever.
Disney had a revolving door of content approved by the biggest nerds and the most hardcore fans around: Comic book people. But instead, they went with analytics from Far-Left websites.
If there’s another answer to explain the incompetency—I’m all for it. Because to see Corporations go against their bottom line; it kind of tells me the world is ending.
But hey, I still hope The Batman and Spider-Man: No Way Home are amazing!
The batman better be good
